Bloody idiotic connection

Bloody idiotic connection. And lies, blatant lies. First they promise
my stable connectivity....hardly! Then the cable fellow they've routed
the connection through is an old theif. First I got the 48kbps shard
connection unlimited, he says you'll be getting speeds of upto 6 kbps
only for downloads. Never does it go above 5, i can assure you.
Browsing speeds are fine, but what do they mean by 48kbps? Opera logs
speeds while browsing, and never has it gone beyond 7.7kbps. When I
contact the office, they say, you'll get speeds ranging from 12 kbps to
48kbps. And they dare to call it BROADband? Perhaps they should either
update their knowledge base, or stop thinking their customers are
fools! TRAI has classified speeds above 256kbps to be broadband. Now,
when i got my connection renewed (i renewed it for 2 months...i hear
prices are gonna go down in april, due to the new Budget and more
players stepping in) they said we've updated our infrastructure, you'd
be getting 48kbps constant. Whoa, what do I find? The speeds are slower
than an MTNL Dial-up!! And my download speeds never go beyond 3...for
heaven's sake 3 fecking kbps!!!! And then the cable fellow has the
nerve to tell me that the pack he had given me before was the 64kbps
one and i should have continued with that, which incidentally costs
695, not 450, as I had originally paid...as if...who's being fooled
here? I though I paid Rs. 450 itself, and that ain't the rate for a
64kbps pack. After lambasting the turds and phone calls in the middle
of the night to their call center, i am now getting decent speeds and
download speeds of not more than 10 kbps. Then they call me up one day
and tell me I shouldn't download more than 150MB per day. Damn them, I
thought mine was an unlimited pack, and I was clearly told that
EVERYTHING is unlimited. So where do I go for the rare Hindustani
Classical compositions? I record about 30 songs everyday from the net.
Then I download books, sample papers, visit college websites with lots
of image contents (I'll be out of school this March end). And what
should not take me more than 3 hrs or 4 hrs a day, takes me more than 7
to 8 hrs, and along with studying for boards, its one heck of a
schedule. So I can't log in to the net and consequently, my pack's
going waste. Now what do I do? Which provider should I opt for, next?

most stupid thing I have ever done

Hi friends,

I am Sonu from Bnagalore. My problem is similar to one mentioned by Sridhar. I am an internet user since 1997 and has spend a lot of money on dial up connections. My monthly telephone bills were about 4500/- avg out of which about 3750 only for the internet. I used to chat a lot and was unable to control the telephone bills. And the main problem, there was not broad band in the area where I lived before (HAL 2nd stage). I shifted to Viveknagar last year and decided to go for Sify broadband. I took the connection by paying 3500/- as the installation charges to the local CTO. I think this is the most stupid thing I have ever done. Hardly I am getting the connectivity. Every time the BB101 error comes up, unable to ping the gateway. When I call the CTO's agent, his cell says that he is not reachable. And in my 4 months of experience with sify, I was able to connect less than 10 times in the nite. Yes, I tried to connect every day atleast 10 times at regular intervels. Sify is there just to eat our money. There is nothing called customer satisfaction in their dictionary. Dont know what to do as I cannot afford to give another 3500/- to airtel or bsnl. Daily I am dialing their call center with out any use. Can u guys suggest me what to do? I am plannig to form an anti sify association. You may reach me san_sui04@yahoo.co.in if you are in the same track.

Paid Media Exposure by So-Called Broadband Giants

I came across this write up in Financial Express today on Sify. I was wondering about the motive behind the same. Then I realized that this was nothing but paid media exposure. For all what Sify has done in the name of “broadband access”, it cannot be excused. I really wish that the journalist had some idea to Google search for Sify and it would lead him/her to this web site. Unfortunate that some people retain their jobs with minimal application of mind.

Everyone is eyeing BSNL now for the huge amount of local loop it has. Admittedly, it should open up it's infrastructure on a revenue sharing basis. However, in places where one would have a choice, it would get BSNL in direct competition with other service providers on its own network. If that sounds asinine, well it is. Of course, BSNL would never ever want comparison with its own lame duck broadband services. In the clash of the egos and corporate wars, the ordinary customer like you and me has to suffer.

A low down of the situation here and judging the same realistically. 6 years back I was on dial up. 6 years hence, I still am on one. The only frustration stems from this fact that prices remain high as ever; the final outgo in monthly payments is marginally less than 6 years though. As the world accelerates towards Open Access and free form entertainment, I have to contend to use my dial up sparingly. Why would the corporate honchos listen to us and for what? The nation suffers and so do we all. One thing is for sure. You would never ever find such Blogs in the mainstream media. Ever think that a newspaper like Times of India feature the insanities that we have to face to access electronic resources? Well not.

Another factor that triggered this post was the Tata advertisement asking for salesmen on job in the eight cities where they are planning to launch. Apart from the metros, it is Chandigarh and Lucknow included. Well in my earlier posts, I had clearly mentioned about the first mover advantage. Under the aegis of Tata Broadband, erstwhile VSNL is planning to have a changeover. So what, if their tariffs remain as expensive as ever? Who cares? There might be enough people (who do not read these posts!) to sign up for the Tata brand name. Personally, I have nothing against them. It is those marketing idiots that they have hired who would be chasing the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. So what if these markets are saturated? They have a reason to believe that people would be falling over each other to sign up. Alternatively, they have conjured up hallucinations that there would be riots for their broadband connections or whatever they choose to call it? Again, I see a lost opportunity to wire up my hometown and numerous others dotting the landscape that is India.

Why do these companies shy from investments in small towns? The answer can be found by going a bit back in the history. When mobile phones were introduced, they were considered to be elitist. There were numerous arguments that mobile phones were a show off. I remember the first Nokia's I ever saw. They were big bulky and ugly and looked like bricks. However, within 5 years the whole scenario changed for the better. Mobile phones have become fashion statements and essential part of the way we conduct our economy. The underlying factor was the change in the attitudes that was brought about by advertising. The companies have to get down to the basics and communicate the fact that Internet has the potential to change the way we access resources and conduct transactions. I had written a post earlier on the way broadband can effectively transform the nation.

Herein lies the rub. Companies want to scale up “profits” as quickly as possible. Their main thrust in the cities they believe that would have paying capacity. Agreeable to an extent. With the current emphasis on e-governance and computers being introduced in schools, it would make it imperative to connect them on line, which would be beneficial to all. I really wish that there were some way out that we did not have to depend on these companies to access Internet.

Again, given the promised revolution in broadband access by Reliance, I am seriously hoping that these very people would be forced to eat crow. Some ISP s like Sify Broadband should be wiped out, given the current hoopla that they have been able to generate on these forums. We are fighting against a super structure that takes its customers (all of them) to be incapable of taking decisions on their own. They believe that they can get away with the lousy support that they provide. Well, with an army of morons that most of these companies have hired, I am pessimistic about the state of affairs changing in the near future. When it does, I shall stop complaining about the same!

Sify Broadband people says Unlimited in Package Pages means Unlimited Browsing

Sify Broadband was and perhaps is one of the few big names, which proudly offers unlimited browsing packages on their product plan page. However, the word unlimited has different meaning for different people. We the user get these packages expected nirvana which means, freedom to spend long hours on the Internet without any worries about increasing bills.

However, for Sify Broadband representatives... Unlimited has very different definition. For them, unlimited means unlimited browsing and not unlimited downloading. This means, they just expect you to stay online without downloading much so that you remain inside the stupid data transfer limit of 150 Megs per day.

This was actually experienced by three people on the Sify Broadband Forum and is quite shocking that people are still unaware of these totally unacceptable policies before joining the services. Worse, none in the media circles of India is bothered enough to raise it. The last hope seems to be the court case an individual named Ankur Raheja has filed against Sify Broadband in the Delhi consumer court.

A user Mahesh1 on the forum even went to the extent of saying this:
Unlimited browsing That’s what the told me. I told him even a 10 mb per month pack will offer unlimited browsing if i download less than 10 MB in that month. Damn liers!!!

Quite right. Maybe Sify guys would think about that suggestion...

Sify Broadband cheats its users royally

I cannot believe this, another round I lost to Sify I wish we get some good internet subscribers in my area soon since this has gone way too far now. Customer care has no answer to my questions and they invite me to cancel my account telling me they can file an application for a refund. Is God mocking me, he knows Sify is the only sevice provider in my area or is he still testing my patience. Bless us with another better service provider to end the regin of this evil and stupid corporation ignoring its customers.

Sify cheats its users royally, the average consumer is not aware of most of its tricks and takes it for granted, like on the unlimited download packages were you aware that there is a download limit on that too. Most users are not aware of that and those who are find it the hard way by a download cap set on these unlimited accounts. The truth is you can download only 150MB data in a day, surprisingly this also includes uploads from your computer if your running a server or sharing some files. Now people uploading from you usually in other countries get very good speeds compared to yours since they have real broadband connections and this upsets you download to upload ratio. There you are barely making it the hotmail webpage and at the same time blamed for heavy usage of files since someone is uploading from you. First, I couldn't believe when i was told this by a "customer care executive" ooohhhhhhhh !!!! but then he told me that I don't use my connection like a normal user.

aaaaggghhhhh !!!!! Another blame I don't how many I would have to take before Sify finally admits its our fault we don't have the infrastructure to support the facilities , but we like to lie to our customers and hide the limitations they should be aware of before signing up.
