More users leave Sify Broadband for good...

This does not come as a surprise. As people are finding better options available, they are moving away from the real terrible Sify Broadband connection. Ankur Raheja has done it, I did it and now another guy on the India Broadband Forum, icefusion is leaving Sify Broadband for Spectranet!

Good going guys... These people do not deserve a penny from us...

Remove SP2 to get Sify Broadband working!

This is another gem from the Sify Broadband Forum!

A guy could not get his Windows XP SP2 with an antivirus to work with their oh-so-awesome login client. He called the customer care and got the suggestion that he should consider using a non-sp2 version of Windows XP. Awesome solution mate... You made my day!

Exact quote from the forum post:

Sify Broadband Business Associate

A great example on how blackmailing goes in the corporate world. And even more incredible is the fact that Sify knows about all this and still decides to do nothing!

A quote from the Sify Broadband Forum:

Guess what guys. Fresh from the experience of my IP being blocked by Sify's SAM server for some unexplainable reason, I had the fortune of being blocked by my Sify BA

What happened was that my account was to expire on Dec. 23 evening so I renewed it online a few hours before the expiry. A while later a guy from the BA came and asked for the account renewal cheque. I told him I had already renewed online but he wouldn't go away easily and made an uneasy face.

Anyway my account got automatically renewed and the internet worked fine until the afternoon of the next day. At this time suddenly I started facing upto 80 % data packet loss. So I called up the BA (just 1 mobile number is there to contact one guy) and what does he tell me, he tells me that he will call me back after 10 minutes and explain it to me because he's in an important meeting.

After pacing around impatiently thereafter for some time I got very mad, called the BA again and almost screamed at him that I'll complain to Sify Cust Care that he hd blocked me. He naturally denied it and kept on telling me to wait a little while longer till his "important" meeting is over.

I kept down the phone and then it struck me that maybe this guy is miffed because he doesn't get his commission from Sify when I renew online as he's supposed to and thus prefers a cheque.

After a while I got a call from Mr. BA ranting to me about why Sify has reduced rates recently to reduce service tax or some sh*t and other rants about money he has to pay to police and the municipality for getting access to poles etc.

It finally transpired that he had started to levy a maintenance charge of Rs. 210 for all new renewals/connections. And he told me that my connection would be normalised "automatically" by a "software" after I paid up the Rs. 210.

So this time I had been effectively blocked by the BA for bypassing him and not paying him the maintenance charge about which I had no clue when it was the BA's responsibility to inform me about it instead of being a bully and blocking me  . Even the collection guy whom I had turned away the previous day hadn't told me anything about it.

And how did the bully BA block me? He didn't block my IP as I tried another IP and it didn't work too. So looks like blocked my MAC address but I don't know yet know how to change the MAC address. Moreover he didn't even block me totally but looks like he reduced my bandwidth from his side to such levels that 80 % of my outgoing data was being lost.

And what do you know, as soon as I paid up the maintenance charge my connection normalised in a flash :-|

Sify Broadband: Piece of Shit

Since day one, I could not ping any external sites. So, no way to check the condition of servers on which my sites are running. Their latest packages do not have one decent enough deal for daytime surfing. In addition, they throw in ultra pathetic clauses messing it even more.

3 days back they installed some stupid firewall, which has made file sharing practically impossible. Torrents are down and I cannot download Suse 9.2 from it. and to make it ever worse, today the speeds dropped down to 6KBps from routine 15KBps. The guy in the server room himself got 11KBps on a test system and found it to be pretty decent!

Have no idea, when they would realize that they suck and need to get a life. If this is their definition of broadband, god help their dialup users.

few things i want sorted out on sify broadband

Hi,

Here is a small list of things I want to get fixed with my connection. I have suffered enough shit already.

  • Pings to external sites.
  • Pings to SAM Server. Its not working since last 2 days.
  • Access to NNTP Servers.
  • Since last 2 days my Bittorrents are down. I don't know whether Sify has something to do with it.
I am asking for these politely. I expect the action to be taken swiftly on these.

regards,
Sushubh

Sify Broadband and Bittorrents

It looks like either all the trackers around the world are down or Sify Broadband has messed up with Torrent Ports. 12 hours and I could not connect to 1 single torrent.

Sify Broadband thumbs down to Delhi Users

Anyone on Sify Broadband would know that there is not one decent package available on their website. Most of the packages are hourly or data transfer based. And the one without any limits are labeled shared and come with hidden limit of 75megs.

There is a glitch here. Sify Broadband is offering Mumbai users a special package codenamed AULM. It comes in speeds of 128kbps. No limits are specified. At best, it is a shared pack but speeds do not go below 8-9KBps for most of the daytime. Nights give even better speeds. At less than 700 bucks, it is relatively a steal.

The issue is that the package is not being offered in Delhi and Chandigarh . Why so? My guess is lack of competition. Mumbai have more ‘broadband' players so they have to offer cheap packages. Chandigarh is even more screwed. And me in Panchkula? Well do not ask...

hidden packages in sify broadband

Nice Support from Sify Broadband!

Just answer the questions which you have an answer for! Avoid the others
like nothing happened. Rather interesting.

Here is another mail which I doubt you would care to respond. Sify is
offering a 128kbps pack in mumbai which works 24x7 with no restrictions.
Same package is not available with my CTO.

Question No.
1. Is it true?
2. Why am I not offered this pack?
3. If i buy the package from mumbai, can I use here?

Sushubh

sify broadband unlimited 128kbps pack

good going...

So,

I had to change my lifecycle to stay up all night to access net just because the only sensible pack you have is night only 128kbps.
I cannot even get a package I want because you do not have it. (min. 128kbps 24x7 no limits, no catches).
You put on hidden limits like... 700 megs a month download limit, 75megs a day download limit and now 100megs a day download limit.
And forget to put it on the website. And take real good care that none of the customer representative mentions it in written email.
Then block NNTP servers, Pings, Traceroutes. And claim the connectivity to be broadband!

I have been disconnected 5 times tonight and am struggling to touch speeds of 8kBps on a pack that should give me 15kBps.

What is next you have in store for me? Please inform me so that I can prepare for it.

How do you guys even sleep at night? Even customer care people laugh when I ask them, do you have a Sify broadband connection at home?

regards,
Sushubh

sify updated rates

Hi,

This mail is related to the updated Sify Broadband Package rates.

No. of hrs Validity Speeds (upto) MRP
Unlimited 1 48 Kbps* 450
Unlimited 1 64 Kbps 695
Unlimited 1 96 Kbps 995
Night Unlimited 1 128 Kbps 400

Unlimited 2 48 Kbps* 850
Unlimited 2 64 Kbps 1295
Unlimited 2 96 Kbps 1895
Night Unlimited 2 128 Kbps 775

Unlimited 6 48 Kbps* 2395
Unlimited 6 64 Kbps 3495
Unlimited 6 96 Kbps 4995
Night Unlimited 6 128 Kbps 2250

My question is. Is sify still cheating the customers by applying the 75megs a day hidden limit on the shared packages? I am asking this because I want to buy the 1 month 96kbps package. But if the connection speed drops down to 16kbps after 75megs downloaded in a day, I had rather stick with the night only package.

Please clarify...

More frustrated Users of Sify Broadband

From: "Sify Broadband Comments"
To:Subject: by: balakrishnan

I am under the shared 48kbps+ pack of sify now. I was really pissed off when I
got to know that there is a limit on the downloads. In spite of their good
service, sify’s customer care division, really frustrates me. When I call them
for any problem, what I get is a sweet “Thank you Mr. So & So". Nothing else.
There is no technical person to assist in solving problems. All they do is make
sure that they convey their gratitude for a user, keeping mum about the problems
faced.
When Sify had the interest in updating the tariffs in the web pages and in the
pamphlets distributed, care is not taken to ensure that the conditions of a plan
are put down explicitly. I don’t even know whether it is legal to impose a
condition that is not stated anywhere. The day after I had booked and “paid” for
my connection they called me up for telling me about the tariff increase. Know
what “I paid them without a squeak". They shouldn’t have asked me in the first
place as I had finished acquiring the package. Only the installation was left.
Sounds as if Maruti can impose a new increase on the price of a car after the
user has purchased it and is ready to take it home. I complied with them because
of the cheap connection tariffs. And now all I get for such a good gesture is a
shocking info after 15days of purchasing the connection, about the hidden limits.
Why isn’t the company showing any interest to update such limits in its webpage?
Anyway, I am continuing with Sify, mumbling all the time. I am now shifting to
the 128kbps night unlimited plan, fro mthe fourth of next month.
