NEVER EVER apporach SIFY or you will end up crying everyday.

For couple of months i had unlimited night and day[restricted to 150mb]. No problem there.
Switched to unlimited night time package for 6 months. All problems started.
Everytime it rains it seems the switch box gets roasted.
Give a call to Customer Care, they land at your doorstep after 5-7 days.
Email to top bass at Sify, you get a call from customer care.
No network connectivity in a month for 15 days. Money paid Rs 500/month. So that means Rs.250 gone down the drain.
If you are planning on getting an internet connection, NEVER EVER apporach SIFY or you will end up crying everyday.

The broadband issues still have not resolved at my end

Hello Ranjith
The broadband issues still have not resolved at my end. I am facing loss of network connectivity from yesterday morning again.
I had lodged a complaint yesterday with the complaint reference being 3411281.
I am really getting tired of this constant downtime. I am going to give Sify a try till this month end and if things are still not resolved I would have to terminate my connection.
Also your "goodwill gesture" of extending my account for 2 weeks has not gone down well with me. I had 2 weeks of downtime this month and a week of downtime last month. So your gesture in no way covers my loss suffered due to lack of service.
In order to highlight my plight, this mail is also being forwarded to the top brass at Sify Broadband.

Dear Mr. Nahar,
Greetings from Sify.
At the outset, we sincerely thank you for your feedback on our services experienced and have noted the contents with concern. It is most unfortunate that, despite our good intentions and endeavours, you have had to undergo some discomfitures.
With reference to our telecon, I have taken your request to my technical team and trust my technical team was in touch with you clarifying your queries and I would like to detail the action taken by us to resolve your problem,
1. It was identified that the problem was with the cascading cables which has gone faulty.
2. We have sent our field engineer who analyzed the issue, replaced the cables and connected you into our network.
It was a pleasure speaking to you taking the same confirmation and I would be glad to receive your feedback by acknowledging this mail. Sify constantly endeavors towards providing unhindered customer support to all its customers. As a gesture of goodwill we have extended your account for another 2 weeks of the same product and you can view the same in your my account information.
Please do feel free to revert back to us regarding any queries if any.

Dear Mr. Murali
In spite of the complaint 5 days back, I am still without any connectivity.
There have been numerous visits by the local service provider, but it's only for "fault location".
This has now started to become ridiculous. Would somebody please take up some action against the localised service provider?

Subject: Broadband Issues
Dear Mr. Murali
This email is to bring to your notice the sad quality of broadband service and customer service being offered by Sify.
I have had a Sify broadband connection since December, 2005.
Initially I was on the ANYTIME INTERNET RANGE - Unlimited. I changed my plan to ANYTIME INTERNET RANGE - Nights and Weekend about 3 months back.
And that's when the problem has started. On an average, I am suffering for 7-10 days downtime on a monthly basis. I have to call up customer service and lodge a complaint, repeatedly. Generally it takes 3-4 days to get even a minor fault rectified.
When I spoke to the customer service for refund for the days I have experienced downtime, I was informed that I need to speak to another customer service for that !!
When I was provided the connection, the Sify executive had promised that all problems will be rectified with 24 hours in most cases. But this promise has been far from truth in my experience.
A 24 x 7 customer service being touted by Sify, is no good if that does not translate into fault repair. I would rather prefer a day time fault reporting service which is rectified quickly.
Other issue is the wiring maintenance charges. Nothing is mentioned about any wiring maintenance charges on the website or product literature. But every month, the localised service provider lands up at your doorstep asking for Rs.50 - Rs, 100, for services which has been almost non existent. I am sure TRAI [Telecom Regulatory Authority of India] would be very interested in this case of misrepresentation of tariffs and pricing.
I am sure that I am not the only one suffering from this poor service. As a last report I am being forced to write this email to you.
I am also considering starting a website and a blog, where other people can report their grievances about Sify and can make informed decisions before signing up to your "Broadband Service".

i got a new sify broadband connection before 3 months

hi,
This is vinod and i got a new sify broadband connection before 3 months. It worked only for 15 days. After that still now it is not working. I have raised so many complaints to sify and no one is responding. The people those who are working in sify call centre are really fraud. Whenever you call them they use to tell that the problem will be solved within 12 hrs. But I am calling them for the past 2 months. I have been told many time frames. I paid Rs.2850/- for this connection and I just used it for only 15 days. They are also not ready to refund the amount. Never ever go for a sify connection. They are simply cheating the people. Please do not recommend anybody for a sify connection.

I faced loads of issues with Sify

I faced loads of issues with Sify,
The power supply failiure is a common thing, there have 2 hubs, one near the user, in my case in my building basement and another with the Cable TV Operator’s office, last 1 month it has been ok, but I faced 3 months of crazy problems till the true unlimited plan came out, I would not download anything, but the account would invariably get over, and I am not some inexperienced guy with comps, once I exhausted a 1 GB plan in 6 days without downloading anything, I still dont know how, then comes Sify’s Renewal Team nightmares, on request for renewal thye will never do it on time, The whole day one has to call, then at the end at night the internet is still not up, at that time, the renewal team is not working so, they will give temporary 64 kbps 3 day package for free, in fact their renewal team is so pathetic, that once they gave me 2 3 day plans back to bakc, so 6 days of internet free , I dont know how do they account for all this internally,
Anyways, as long as it works now I will not complain.

I am Sify Broadband user from Pune

I am Sify Broadband user from Pune and the problem I am facing is it opens open the sifymax.com webpage and any other web site is tried it gives me a DNS error. I reported this to the customer care, one person visited to provide support who does not understand how to start a computer also. I use google.com it opens the site and any search is tried I get a DNS error.
I use to browse properly when I was using Windows 2000 professional OS and a Pentium III computer, I am facing these problems when I bought a new computer with Windows XP OS and Athlon 3500 processor and MB PC.
I tried contacting the customer care several times and only two times the call is attended with no solution. I agree with others experiences that browsing in night time is pathetic experience (with my old computer). We are charged for 256Kbps connection and the speed is around 5 to 6Kbps. Even in the morning times it does not provide more than 18 to 20Kbps speed. With my new computer in place I am not able to browse at all with DNS error. I think this is a setting issue and no one is able to provide the solution to the same. Thanks to the problems aggravated using Windows Xp and Sify broadband.
The customer care personnel call up promptly to remind me to renew my account every three months but are not prompt in solving the problem.

I feel extremely lucky as a Sify broadband user

After reading this report, I feel extremely lucky as a Sify broadband user. I beleive whatever is written in this report; in fact I have read scores of other similar reports, some in mild language, others extremely vile! Before I proceed any further, let me tell everyone that I AM NOT AN EMPLOYEE OF SIFY!! Everytime I try to write anything in favour of Sify, I get wry comments to that effect.
It must be the bad luck of hundreds of people like you, and good luck for a handful of people like me, to be using Sify broadband. I am not in this forum just for the sake of argument, I just happened to come across these reports and feel it my duty to publish my unbiased personal experience, thats all. So much for clarification, now the facts; I stay in Delhi (East Delhi to be precise) and have been using a Sify BB connection for more than one year. It is a 256kbps always on connection, with a 1GB download limit and one month’s validity. After my initial payment of Rs.2000/- for installation, I got my connection the very next day. The partners, two young guys, (B.Tech in computer science), configured my computer with the necessary antivirus (McAfee at that time) and client software and within minutes I was riding on the internet highway. Seems too good to be true? It’s a fact.
Since then, other than occasional hiccups, I have rarely faced any serious problems. On a couple of occasions I did face persistent connectivity problems, and had to talk to their customer care guys who gave me lengthy instructions over the phone to solve the problem. But the problem didn’t budge. Finally I was on the verge of loosing my cool, and wanted to have a showdown with the cable guys. But before that I wanted to have a last try. I reinstalled Windows XP and logged in; to my surprise, everything was back to normal! I was about to fire the poor Sify guys for no fault of theirs. (Bill Gates should be listening).
I am a businessman having my office at my home, so I extensively use my computer throughout the day for surfing and downloading. Connectivity is instant, and without fail.
Recently I was contemplating migrating to some other service provider, hoping to strike a better deal. But after extensive survey in and around my area, I coudn’t find a better or cheaper internet service provider. For information, I tried Airtel, but they don’t give connection in our area; Tata VSNL is more expensive, and another provider by the name of Hotwire is also costlier. MTNL charges rent every month for the modem, or you have to shell out about Rs.2000/- to purchase your own. Their charges was also higher compared to Sify.
So the moral of the story is, the service and quality you get is a question of “where” and “when”; if you are lucky to get a last mile cable provider like mine, you’ll be a happy man. The above is totally my own experience, and I invite anybody to try it out at my place anytime! After all, seeing is believing.
PS. I just came accross an ad from MTNL Delhi giving broadband connection at 256 kbps for just Rs.199/- (plus modem rental Rs.80/-)per month with a data download limit of 400MB. Worth giving it a try?

Sify broadband for the past more than one year

I live in East Delhi. I have been using Sify broadband for the past more than one year. I am happy to say that I have faced no serious problems to date. The charges are I think the lowest in the country, Rs.650/- per month always on connection at 256kbps, max download limit is 1GB. I can barely exhaust this limit in one month, and the surfing speed is between 200kbps to 256kbps. My cable operator is very responsive and prompt. I think the effectiveness of any cable broadband is vastly dependant on the last mile cable provider; this is the person who either builds or destroys the reputation of any service provider, be it Tata, Airtel or Sify. So my advice is, don’t judge a service provider from their tariff list, but talk to the local cable operator and try to find out about his infrastructure, setup, knowledge about IT, and service backup. Best of luck to all.

I am Amit from Vashi, New-Bombay. I second everyone's opinion that SIFY is the WORST ISP on this entire planet..

SIFY really really sucks.
I am a customer of sify for about 6 months. I am unable to obtain a continuous connection in a single day stretch.
There are always at least 3-4 hours outtages every day. Their customer service is the worst. Sometimes, I feel that the guy on the other end of the fone is not even literate.

People of India please do not get Sify.. also tell all your friends/collegues to boycott Sify.. We must all unite and teach those m**herf***rs a good lesson.

I have a 256 kbps connection with a 28 to 32 kbps download speed

Hi,
I am Ashwin from Mumbai and I have a 256 kbps connection with a 28 to 32 kbps download speed.

The first month was like a honey trap. There were no problems, I got the promised 28 to 32 kbps download speed, with no downtime.

From the second month the problems started, the most frequent one was "Request Timed Out" and this only happened at night time i.e. during the free download period, between 10:30p.m. and 8:00a.m. only a few times, but from the 6 month itself the dialer started hanging.

Now this is the 10 month, and I had renewed on the 3rd of this month after I had threatened them that I will discontinue their connection if they didn't do something of the frequent "Request Timed Out" problem, but out of the 13 days I had their connection I couldn't connect to the net during 11 nights.

The only way to teach Sify Broadband a lesson is mass exodus, just disconnect and take some other ISP's connection, and discourage other newbies from taking Sify Broadband connection.

I am also having series of problems with Sify.

I am also having series of problems with Sify. I may be regarding the quality of connection, uptime or may be billing issue.
I regret the decision to go with Sify.

The service provided by satyam is so poor

The service provided by satyam is so poor that even the Local cable operator provides better service. The Customer care people are big fu..kers.
I am having a lot of problems with Sifi which is the
only ISP providing broadband in my area. Their service is pathetic and also their business sense.
At first it so happened that I had a Plan which was
night unlimited 256 KBPS. I had recharged for 2 months and everything wasfine. One day when I logged in, it gave a message Account Expired, I didn’t know why as still there were 1.5 Months left for my account to expire. Then on
asking to Sifi I came to know that suddenly they changed their plan
from Night Unlimited to Night and Weekends unlimited
with one condition that if during day time you download more than 150 MB then on every 20 MB extra they would deduct 1 day of your plan. I didn’t knew the change
in their business model and generally I used to download whole night and next day after 8:00 AM the account used to stop, but that Saturday whole of my account was eaten up as I downloaded more than 1 GB by mistake.
Good business plan, how much money would they have
gained from me by providing free internet for weekends, 1000 Rupees, that really making fool of their customers.
Next my Internet was not working as there was a
problem with LAN wires. I called the customer care and complaint the first day. I had to call everyday and it tool 15 days for my connection to be repaired. I asked
for the compensation then they said yes we will compensate you when you recharge your account next time.
I recharged my account in hope that they will
reimburse me the 15 days which were lost when the account didn’t work. I paid a check of 561 Rupees plus Rupees 100 which they always take and is not accounted for.
When I logged in in the Night I came to know that my
plan has been changed from Night Unlimited (256 KBPS) to some family plan (64 KBPS).
Its 10 days now I have been repeatedly calling the
Sifi people both the local vendor and their Support center. Nothing has been done so far.
Everyday I call they say “We are extremely sorry for
the Inconvenience and your problem will be resolved immediately” but when I check my account remains same (64 KBPS).
Also when you call their support center it takes a lot
of time to connect around 1 Min for Announcing their stupid
change in number message and the phone lines they are having is so poor that you will have to repeat your words at least 3 to 4 times before the person on the line can understand you.
I asked the support guy to transfer the line to his
manager and he never handed over the line to manager instead he cuts the phone or take my number and says that his manager is busy right now and will call me back after sometime.
Neither the manager called not the guy called.
I Short they are making fool of the people, they know
the fact that anyone will not go to consumer forum for few thousand rupees.
If you have a choice do not choose Sifi as your ISP.
They are big fu…kers

I have a exactly opposite experience with Sify

Hi,
I have a exactly opposite experience with Sify. I will say it is the Worst Broadband ISP I have ever seen.
The SIFY contractor in our are does not allow other service providers to enter??? Where are we democracy or communism? The same operator has got BSNL Exchange and has given contact number of Airtel?
If he, himself is not loyal to his Business, how can he force customers to go for only SIFY and try to build monopoly of SIFY?
SIFY Is a broadband operator which was not having a single Postpaid plan??? A provider with no plan of Unlimited download?? A provider calling it Broadband and allowing customers to download free only from 10 pm - 08 am.
I don’t have any other words to describe about Unethical and pathetic marketing strategy and service… SIFY is not match for TATAs… not for next billion years….

error bb108 Gateway unreachable

hi,
This is ashish from kolkata and me to facing the same problem with sify.
(1) error bb108 Gateway unreachable
(2) Network Cable unpluged
i think they should improve their service and give importance to their customers.
one more problem which i faced was that while using their 64kbps plan i always use less than 100mb/day but suddenly one day i saw it was 236mb which was next to impossible.
so i think their is someone who is using my line, i dont know how, but i am sure.
sify should check and take needful steps as early as possible, otherwise they are going to loose their customers with this type of service.

facing the same problem with sify.

I had purchased a Sify broadband connection on the 28th of April

I had purchased a Sify broadband connection on the 28th of April for which I had paid 1700 Rs. (1000 Rs. registration charges and 700 Rs. package charges for a month). The sales executive promised me that the connection would be activated the same evening. However, the sales executive did not turn up till 10 pm in the night. When he did turn up, he gave me a free connection for 7 days and said that the connection pack that I had paid for would be activated in a couple of days. I was fine with the idea. However, post 2 days there was no update on my account with Sify. I called up their Customer Service number on the 4th of May and the guy on the line informed me that my account would be renewed within 24 hours. However, there was no renewal done on my account post 24 hours. I gave the customer service guys a call back again and the same thing was repeated, stating that the account would be renewed in 24 hours. I called them again today and was promised a call back by their manager within an hour. After 3 hours of waiting for a call back, when I contacted them again, I got a chance to speak with their Floor Supervisor named Habib. She said that she would be unable to provide me with information on refund as I wanted to discontinue my account. All in all, a very frustrated customer, who does not even want a refund of the 1700 Rs. now! Really fed up with the appalling Customer Service, or should I say non-Service.

Hi all....I am also using this SUCKING sify broadband connection for a year now.

Hi all....I am also using this SUCKING sify broadband connection for a year now....I usually renew my account with 256 KBPS true unlimited plan (new plan of sify) ......In that your download speed is 256 KBPS but upload speed is 64 KBPS this is a mess....They should not do this ....Most of the problem I face are:

1. Gateway unreachable (DAILY)
2. Network Cable unpluged (DAILY)

Now also I would like to tell u all tht the customer care service is also not good.......yeah they say tht it will take maximum 1 day to fix ur problem they have issued ur problem to technical staff and they will handle it.....

Lastly .......DON'T EVER BUY THIS SIFY BROADBAND CONNECTION......I am also thinking to change this connection to either airtel or tata indicom.....

Sify customer care

I recently had a dispute with the Sify guyz. I had paid them in advance, they didn’t come across to me to install the connection. Finally I had cancelled the deal and now plan to shift to Airtel. I hope my experience with Airtel will not be the same. Thanks god I didn’t pay the Sify guyz the whole amount, otherwise they w’d have not given me anything, neither the connection nor the money. I think we need to pass these messages on to Sify customer care, if at all such a unit exists.

incompetency by Sify Broadband and ICC cable Network in Pune

Hi Folks,
Its been 4 months of utter frustration and display of incompetency by Sify Broadband and ICC cable Network in Pune.
Every single day that i get on the net, i get this stupid error as “BB 101- UNABLE TO REACH GATEWAY”. I have lodged numerous complaints with Sify and the local cable guy who has installed the connection. BUT I AM STILL WAITING FOR A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. If i get the chance, i will get this article in the newspaper !!!

I am sick and tired of Sify’s Broadband Connection

Hi Folks,
I am sick and tired of Sify’s Broadband Connection. Its been about 4 blooming and idiotic months of my Sify connection. Every single day that i get on my computer and try and log into the account i get an error as “BB-101 UNABLE TO REACH GATEWAY”.

I am a Sify BB user from Chennai

I am a Sify BB user from Chennai. I think i share most of your opinions. A few things that i feel have to be improved a lot with Sify...

1. Customer Care personnel. Some of the are so dumb that you wonder how they ever got recruited. One fellow repeatedly said, try pinging your gateway, when my complaint was Network Cable Unplugged(inspite of my cable being ok)

2. The way in which data usage is recorded. There is no warning/alert when you are about reach 150 MB limit. You have to logout and relogin to see the usage. It once happened that my one month's night unlimited pack got used in ONE day(just renewed that morning). Reason, downloaded during day(sunday). The download manager got open accidentally and ended up downloading 784MB(the limit is 150MB and for every 25MB you use after 150MB, one day's validity is one). I admit that I am to blame for being negligent. But had there been a warning or alert this could have been avoided.

3. The concept of data usage limit. Why should there be a limit on downloads?

4. Session refresh. I have the 256 Kbps night unlimited weekend pack. So, I download during nights. The people at Sify sometimes clear all the sessions in the middle of the night. You wake up in the morning only to find there has been no dwonload activity for the past 5-6 hrs. These guys are sometimes too cunning.

5. Most important! Rates. Some plan rates are just too high, given the speed at which they are provided! E.g 64 Kbps at Rs. 400 p.m. Technically 64Kbps is not broadband, it is just an always on interrnet connection.
